Subject: Hi from North Dakota!! -The Richardsons

Hi Glenn and Carolyn, Not sure if you remember us, but its Hallie and Matt Richardson (children are Andrew and Merritt). We came through your Alpaca Ranch this last Summer while traveling in our RV, we have a little dog named Apple too. Anyhow, we learned so much about Alpacas and fell in love with the idea of owning some someday. Well, I'm happy to report we have settled down in North Dakota, we bought a farm house on 12 acres, outside of this small town called Grafton. Besides the house, and a small shed there isn't a setup (yet) to have livestock, but we want to start planning to get a barn, and a nice fenced area so we can eventually get Alpacas!! We know there is one Alpaca farm but that's quite a bit further South, we think this community would just love an Alpaca Ranch nearby! Anyhow, I'm going to start doing more research on Alpacas and the community therein. But we wanted to reach out, and give you two an update on what we are up to!! We hope you are well, and thanks again for hosting us so we could learn about these beautiful, curious animals. -Hallie and Matt Richardson [email protected]

Xtayed with Glenn and Carolyn at Sawdust Alpacas.  BA and SlowPole were in town for the Fastest Gun Alive Fast Draw competition.  It was an Awesome stay, we learned about all the animals, got to hold one, got the entire tour and lots of knowledge about Glenns operation.  They even came into town to watch us at the shooting match.  Will be seeing them in the future.  They are loving and kind and great with the animals, awesome little gift shop was able to get some good Christmas gifts.

This was my mom and my First stay at a Harvest Host and we couldn't have had a
Better first stop.  We arrived a bit late but we got to say Goodnight to the moms/baby Alpacas.  Glen met me outside and suggested the best way to park.  Glen is a Very friendly guy and as we found out the next day, a Very Alpaca Knowledgeable man.  The next morning we got to help feed and meet All of the Alpacas.  We learned SO much about Alpacas.  So Many Interest things that we learned.  Glen gave us a good hour and a half of this time to answer SO many questions that we had (Sorry Glen).  Then when we thought it was all done we met Carolyn and she brought us into the shop.  What a fun little store and Carolyn is so Sweet and Very Knowledgeable as well.  It was Very hard for my mom and I to not buy one of everything in the shop.  I plan on going back to Sawdust Alpacas the next time I go home to California.  Thank You to Glen and Carolyn for having Such a Wonderful place for us to stay and learn and to meet Two really Great People and Many Beautiful Alpacas

The host was very friendly and spent a good amount of time telling us about the Alpacas and letting us pet and be with them.  His tour was fabulous! The site was lever and he had a 30 amp plug available.  His wife ran the shop which had a good selection of items at all prices.  We would stag again.  We especially liked the Alpaca that Harvest Host sponsored.  Thank you for such a fabulous stay in July 2023.

23.06.28 Sawdust Alpacas, Fallon NV Glen was a most affable host and the site is an attraction unto itself.  I was an hour early showing up (I missed the "Entering Pacific Time Zone" sign when I passed into NV from UT), and interrupted his dinner, but he was jovial about it, said I could park right over by the female alpacas pen, showed me where to plug in, and invited me to take all the pics I wanted.  The alpacas are pretty cool animals.  Totall silent, at least so far.  They seem curious about me, but not enough to approach me.  I just said hi from the fence and watched them for a while.  I slept about 20 feet from them all night and never heard a sound.  My solar generators were pretty well charged from a drive across NV (go figure, right?), but I ran my 100-foot cord to the side of the house and plugged in to top them off anyway.  Glen askeds for $10 to cover electricity and I happlily paid.  Come morning, I was up and out before Glen came out, so I check out his small store.  Some very cool stuff in there!  I bought a pair of nice thick socks for when I go hiking up in Canada ($15).  This was a very cool site indeed.  I thanked Glen for his hospitality and congeniality.  If I find myself near Fallon again, I would definitely request another stay.

These hosts were quick at making us feel at home at their farm.  We had a nice parking spot that we liked near the alpacas.  There was electric but we didn't need it.  We loved the tour and getting to know the individual personalities of the alpacas and their guardian dog.  The shop has many items hand made fro their aplacas along with other similar choices.  I especially liked their sticker.  They also give out a complimentary, reusable tote that's very nice for using for traveling.  Nice Sunset.  Thank you!

Directions on Google took us directly to the farm.  Upon arrival, Glenn came over and instructed us on where to park.  Glenn and Carol were extremely hospitable and kind.  He led us into the alpaca pen and showed us around.  It was nice looking out our window and watching the alpacas.  They're quiet animals and their guard dog, Abby us sycg a sweet dog.  It was a wonderful experience, we would definitely go back to visit.

We had the best time here with the alpacas, Glenn, Carolyn and Abby! They were very gracious hosts!  We got a very in depth tour and even got to help with the feeding in the morning before we left.  Such a special stop!

It was my first time seeing alpacas.  They are adorable!.  The hosts shared their extensive knowledge of alpacas and gave us a tour.  I bought some alpaca fiber to knit.  It was also a quiet and peaceful place to overnight.  Thanks to the hosts for sharing their farm with us.

We enjoyed a fantastic stay at Sawdust Alpacas.  Glenn and Carolyn were great and provided awesome information about the alpacas.  We were invited to help with the weighing and administering of supplements to the two babies that were on site during our visit.  The fift ship on site had a nice variety of items for sale and we bought some cute Christmas gifts while we were there.  Their guardian dog, Annie, does do her job overnight so earplugs might be considered.  Maybe these can be an additional offering in the gift shop (made from alpaca fiber, of course)!  Highly recommend this Harvest Host.

We absolutely loved our stay here!  Glen walked us around and taught us about their whole operation which was wonderful because I hope to have fiber animals one day.  Abby was the sweetest girl and the alpacas are adorable.  Carolyn helped us in the store where we were able to find some some beautiful year, cozy socks and mittens.  There is the option to hook up to power dor $10 which is great because it allowed me to use our electric heaters and make coffee.  That's been my favorite place to stay so far."

This was our very first stay at a Harvest Host and it was so memorable.  Sorry for the delay in the review but we were unable to post earlier.  We are thrilled that we spent time here at their farm.  Both hosts are generous and caring people.  The farm is small but has plenty of room for RVs and has power and water available for a small fee.  They have a store on premises and we destroyed our wallet there since there was so many different things to buy.  Our favorite was a black and gray rug that was made at their farm.  Glenn is so knowledgeable and takes a lot of time to educate guests on the alpacas and the workings of the farm.  We took photographs of the alpacas since I am a photographer and we gave them lots a pics to use in their business.  We even were honored that they spent time with use on their patio in the evening and shared stories and pics over a nice glass of wine.  We hope to be back again and if you are thinking of staying here...do not miss the chance!

We immensely appreciated the opportunity to stay with our hosts Glenn and Carolyn! Hands down the best experience.  We were able to stay a little late in the day to watch the birth of a new baby alpaca.  Glenn and Carolyn were exceptional hosts!  We were able to fit our 35' 5th wheel without any problems.  Can't wait to see them and their 4 leggers (including Abie). Thank you....

Even if you have to go out of your way, go to Sawdust Alpacas. Glenn is so friendly and obviously loves his alpacas. He spent 2-3 hours with us talking about alpacas in general and about his specific animals. We were able to help him as he ground down one of the boy’s teeth. We were there in early November and he had seven recently born babies. One was only one week old. Caroline, Glenn’s wife was a wealth of information about the quality of the wool and she had a nice little store there with alpaca wool products for sale. This was our first Harvest Host experience. Glenn and Caroline set a high bar for any future stays for us.

Hi Glenn,

You have received a new review from a Harvest Hosts member!

We had a great stay with Glen and Caroline. The kids helped with all the morning alpaca chores and we all learned a ton about how the process of the alpaca fiber cycle. Driving out to the place we were routed by google maps through a lot of dairies and other feed lots, don't get nervous, the sawdust alpacas place was incredibly clean and organized and you can tell they love their alpacas, treated with such care. Well worth the off the beaten path effort to make a stop here. The site was pretty level and parking should be easy for pretty much any size rig. We didn't use the power but it was right there and looked brand new. The store they have set up has everything alpaca you could ever need. Thank you to the hosts for such a unique fun stay! The kids haven't stopped talking about it!

When we pulled up to Sawdust Alpacas, we knew it was going to be something special. My husband was greeted immediately by Glenn, the alpaca whisperer. In a few minutes we were pulling next to a building along the alpaca corrals. I was in disbelief. I couldn't believe we were actually going to be sharing our space within 20 feet of the most adorable, humorous, inquisitive creatures. Carolyn invited me into her shop. It was full of lovely items. I immediately chose a hat and mittens. Perfect for our Alaska destination. Later in the day, Glenn took us into the shearing room and began to explain the whole process from shearing to the end product. Then the fun began. Feeding the "boys" pellets, helping to change the water buckets....I can't begin to relate the joy I felt being surrounded by these gentle, mysterious creatures. They all have names and different personalities. Glenn had some interesting stories to tell. It has been a week and I still smile. This was an amazing experience. Oh...and yes Abby the guardian dog. Glenn and Carolyn also shared their knowledge of Alaska with us. If you are going to be in the Fallon, NV do yourself a huge favor and stop at Sawdust Alpacas....you will be transformed!

Yes! Definitely stay here! We had stayed at another alpaca farm in Maine so I was hesitant to stay here but I’m so glad we did! Glenn welcomed us in even though I called the same day. He has a smooth, flat spot right between his home and the alpacas. It was so fun to wake up to alpacas staring at you. In the morning he invited our children into the yard to pet and feed the alpacas. He taught us a lot about the animals and showed my kids how he cuts their nails. You can tell that he thoroughly enjoys having the children on his farm. His wife Carolyn was very sweet. We purchased a few things from their small store. As we left they waved us off like family. Thank you so much for having us!

Glenn couldn’t have been more hospitable. The corrals were very well kept so no odors since Glenn is constantly working on it.We came away from our visit with a few pair of what are now my favorite socks and we’ll be back for more . . . Judy E., 11/20/2020

We’ve been on the road for about three weeks, and this was my favorite place we’ve stayed! We got to to tour the farm and meet all the alpacas. The hosts were super knowledgeable and so friendly. Plus— they had hookups and WiFi! . . . Molly W, 11/23/2020
